Grisaille has a base composition similar to that of the Middle Ages.
It is a paint with mineral pigments (metallic oxides) scattered in a vitreous mass (melting agent).
Grisaille colours can be mixed together.
The correct application of these paints will guarantee to the art works a durability as long as the most prestigious stained glass windows.
According to the thickness applied, the paint will be opaque (lines) or translucent (formations).
Note: grisaille is coloured in transparency, but does not transmitted colour light.
Composition : "Rocaille" (melting agent) SiO2 - 4 PbO + metallic oxyde tinting.
Application: distilled water and Arabic gum, or any other medium used in workshops. Vinegar is not recommended. If used, a previous test must be made.
Firing: minimum 620°C up to 750°C and more according to the colours. It is recommended to hold the firing temperature for one hour.
Aspect: after firing, the appearance is matt or satin, or glossy if fired at high temperature. The grisaille colour remains the same before and after firing.
